Advocating for Inclusive Education and Growth

I am dedicated to PUBLIC education, and deeply committed to the principle that ALL students should have access to it. Public education is the gift that we as Texans give to ourselves; an investment that we make in future generations. To protect that investment, I will focus on practical solutions that UNITE our Keller ISD community, not divide it. I will push back on the “Voucher” issue, and insist that PUBLIC schools are funded before private schools. Effective resource management demands that we do not waste the time of our professional educators on political agendas unrelated to academic achievement.

Public Education - My Story

I believe public education is the backbone of our democracy, and I’m an example of how far public education can take you. Growing up, I loved working on my grandfather Theo’s farm outside of the small town of Seguin, Texas. He could never continue his education beyond the 6th grade but wanted more for me. While he plowed rows, I would sit on the fender of his tractor and watch airplanes from nearby Randolph Air Force Base flying overhead. I dreamed of being a pilot one day.

After graduating high school, I attended Texas A&M, then entered the U.S. Air Force where I flew missions worldwide including during Operation Desert Storm. I began flying for American Airlines in 1990 and retired in 2023. I married my beautiful wife Mary in 1984, and we just celebrated our 40th anniversary.
We settled in Keller in 1992 so our two children, Sarah and Andrew, could attend Keller ISD schools. Back then, Keller was a small town on the cusp of a population boom. In the mid 90s, I served on a Citizens Bond Task Force for KISD, focusing on demographic studies. The citizens of KISD passed the biggest bond in their history, built several new schools, and attracted teachers and students from all over the state.

To give back to this great community, I’ve served 27 years on the Board of Advisors for the YMCA. I have gained experience with budget issues, strategic planning, recruitment, fundraising, and family programs. The mission of the YMCA is “Putting Christian Principles into Practice”. Our programs are open to everyone, and no one is ever turned away for lack of ability to pay. Leadership at a nonprofit requires good people skills, and high level of collaboration and cooperation to support the YMCA staff in doing their job.

I am running for a position on the KISD school board because I want to see our public schools succeed. Public education gave me the opportunity to pursue my dreams. My children are now grown, and their time at Keller ISD gave them a foundation for success. I want EVERY child in Keller ISD to have that same opportunity… to feel valued, worthy, and hopeful. On November 2nd, Mary and I welcomed our first grandchild into the world. His name is Theo… like my grandfather. I hope he likes tractors and airplanes.

Help Us Reach Voters

Voter turnout is crucial to protecting our schools and producing positive change. Less than 10% of voters participate in May elections, so the direction of Keller ISD is controlled by politically driven factions who vote as a bloc. We must change how we think about May elections – at least half of your property tax bill is determined by May elections. Commit to voting, and help us get out the vote. If you want to change things, you must vote for change.
